I just returned from a 1 week holiday traveling in Australia with a camper. I visited Byron in Queensland, Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach and dropped off the campervan in Airlie Beach. Australia is an amazing place in the world so if you're thinking of hiring a motorhome, campervan or RV, I would definately recommend it!
Listed here are my top tips with hiring a recreational vehicle:
Tip 1: You will find loads or rental companies available, so make use of a service like CampervanFinder.com.au to check prices from virtually all of the rental providers and then negotiate the cost using with the sales representative. This will save you the time and effort of calling or going to 20 different providers websites to obtain quotes.
Tip 2: Decide if you prefer a motorhome or a campervan. The primary difference is the fact that motorhomes usually include a rest room and shower. Motorhomes usually cost double the amount so if you're on a tight budget choose something something like a van which is much cheaper.
Tip 3: Sleep at camping locations whenever you can. Yes, you are able to stay by beach by renting a camper but you'll soon be missing toilets, hot showers and cooking facilities. And even though it rarely happens, you may be penalized for parking in public areas.
Tip 4: Remember your phone charger! Take the USB cigarette charger for the phone and bring a cable to plug your phone in the stereo system.
Tip 5: Be aware of the weather. If it rains there is more chance of having an accident.
