Elisabeth Motley/ Motley Dance
New Voices in Live Performance, Center for Performance Research, NY
Duck & Goose proposes the potential possibilities and chaos within the nuanced nature of women’s roles. Exploring the synthesis of creative practice with mommy-dom, a live sound score is created and performed by Motley using children’s toys, midi machine, keyboard, and nursery rhyme. The multiplicity of the word imprinting is investigated, examining the patterns and behaviors of ducks and geese, as well as the societal preoccupation to leave behind an indelible mark. Duck & Goose will discuss the permanency and non- permanency of the footprints we make on earth and ask if it is possible to unmake a mark. The work encourages an evolving dialogue surrounding the othering of mothering.
