Kelly Slater slashes his infamous 'sheet lightning' cutback for the very first time on a hurricane swell at Sebastian Inlet in 1995.
Dick Meseroll was on the beach and shot a 35mm kodachrome slide sequence of this wave Kelly caught bouncing off the jetty. Mez's titled "Sheet Lightning" and sold as a Surfer Magazine Collectors Edition Poster.
This particular footage is a clip from the debut surfing video "Flail" made by John Lynch and David Genchi.
Released in 1995.
Sebastian Inlet, a state park in Southern Melbourne Beach Florida has since undergone reconstruction by the Army Corps of Engineers. Unfortunately, the famous first peak bounce off the jetty has since been reduced to dribble due to a reconfiguration of the jetty structure.
The music was composed by Combustible Edison.
I hope you enjoy this vintage surfing at its finest.
