The 200th anniversary of the Old State House in Hartford was in 1996. To celebrate the $12 million renovation I directed a parade based on the state's 169 towns and cities. Each town was arranged in the order in which it was founded. The idea was for each town to create a "float" that expressed the history of their town or city. I think the most imaginative was Manchester with a silkworm made of white garbage bags (to represent the silk mills). As each town passed the reviewing stand they gave the governor a puzzle piece in the shape of their town. It was added to a map of the state and slowly the puzzle was completed as the parade ended.
