Since I received my first telescope when I was six years old I have been hooked on astronomy. I began grinding telescope optics in my teens. As my mirrors got steadily larger my dream was that one day I would build a telescope that surpassed the one at my university's observatory. This project was thirty-two years in the planning stage and three years in the construction phase. I have compressed these last three years into this two minute video.
The four meter diameter fibreglass dome and control system is produced by ScopeDome in Slupsk, Poland.
Astrosysteme Austria (ASA) produced the DDM160 direct drive mount, pier and truss tube.
I am grinding and figuring the optics myself, simply because it is a lot of fun!
