The "Red Hill Tanks" are still a mystery to most residents of Honolulu, Hawaii. I was born and raised on the island and drove the freeway that goes up and over Red Hill countless times never knowing that there were huge fuel tanks in an underground facility below me. Shooting within the labyrinth of tunnels presented a lighting challenge as I had to figure out a way to bring out as much detail as possible so we could see something. Plugging in regular lights was not an option so I worked with one light on my camera and another portable light which was hand-held by my partner ahead of me and around bends which provided just enough "kick" to resolve details. It was very difficult to give the impression of scale to the interior of the tank as I was lowered to the bottom in a metal basket.
