Talking Heads 2010, MIT Media Lab Defy Gravity exhibit. Moving telepresence out of the box and into real space. Tribute to the classic 1982 Talking Heads experiment in telepresence.
The original video (monitor) shows a conversation with Professor Roy Lamson, one of the founders of MIT’s Council For the Arts and it’s director in 1982. Researchers in the Architecture Machine Group sensed Roy’s head movement, synchronized it with a projection screen molded to represent Roy’s head, and projected his image onto it. In the present exhibit, Andy Lippman is projected through a molded screen while he narrates the original video and participates in the dialog.
