This spot for Cartoon Network and Subway combined two things that we at Elevation hold near and dear to our hearts: 80’s video games and sandwiches. We knew that nailing the timing of the ninja’s movements and the vegetables breaking apart as they fly through the air would be key to the success of the piece, so each sequence was carefully planned before the shoot. We also enlisted the talents of two people to help sell that critical moment when foot meets veggie: Our ninja who was found from a local martial arts school and a food stylist who helped us prep the food so that it looked whole while flying through the air but would cascade apart once our ninja’s roundhouse kick connected.
After a single-day shoot with the talent (and food) against a green screen, our team of artists got to work taking the spot to the finish line. The green screen footage was composited into a 3D dojo environment, and the graphic overlays and sound effects were added to sell the video game feel of the piece. The finished product really brings the term “sandwich artist” to a whole new level.
