UNITS – “Cowboy”
Music by Scott Ryser © 1979
Performed by UNITS in 1980 for the album "DIGITAL STIMULATION".
This video, edited by Scott Ryser, uses scenes from the original 16mm films and 35mm slides the UNITS
projected during their live performances of the film “Cowboy”.
The UNITS usually ran two 16mm projectors and two 35mm slide projectors, simultaneously, during their performances at punk clubs in the SF Bay Area in the late 1970’s, and later throughout the USA. The film was constantly breaking or getting jammed and melting, adding to the overall visual experience. A roll of scotch tape was on hand at all times for speedy repairs.
The original "COWBOY" film experience was created by Scott Ryser and Rachel Webber in 1979.
The UNITS are now considered pioneers of “Synthpunk” and “Electropunk” and are candidates for the earliest Synthpunk / Electropunk recording.
