I went for a 3 days exploration at Samar caves in the Philippines to start my underworld project and face my greatest fears (darkness, heights, being in a small space and snake). I assembled a team with Joni Bonifacio the master caver and 3 porter spelunkers, along with my son Paul and brother-in-law Rio.
First explored Central Cave at Catbalogan City, Samar. Central Cave was discovered 2014 by a local and explored by Joni Bonifacio and Zar Labtic. Central Cave II was discovered and explored by Jean Paul Sounier on 2015.
On second day, we headed to Calbiga for Langun and Gobingob Caves, the biggest cave in the Philippines.
Gobingob, on the other hand, has a huge hall with beautiful stalagmite, stalactite and flowstone formations, one of the largest in East Asia.
Langun chamber is 270 meters long and 160 meters wide at its largest area, which can easily fit three football fields.
We camped at Langun chamber for the night then hike back to Calbiga for 3 hours.
