Sanford Kwinter is a New York-based writer and design theorist, who writes widely on philosophical issues in art, architecture, science and the humanities. Kwinter has taught at universities throughout the U.S. and Europe as well as at MIT, Columbia and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design where he co-directed the Master in Design Studies program until 2014. He is currently Professor of Science and Design at the Pratt Institute in New York and Director of theory at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. Kwinter was cofounder and editor of ZONE and Zone Books, and served on the editorial boards of several design journals throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
His recent works include "Far From Equilibrium: Essays on Technology and Design Culture", "Requiem: For the City at the End of the Millennium" and is currently working on a series of projects on the ecology of form including the forthcoming “What is Energy and How [Else] Might We Think About It?”.
