Fragile Island of Peace is a documentary that will tell the story of a remarkable peacebuilding program implemented in Burundi following the end of the country's bloody civil war in 2003. Currently in production in Burundi and the USA, the film vividly describes the work done to rebuild Burundi's social fabric, torn by violence that resulted in over 300,000 deaths and generated hundreds of thousands of refugees.
A long period of fragile stability followed this peacebuilding work, but now, Burundi is in the midst of a political crisis that has severely tested the strength of the peace they achieved. Fragile Island of Peace will become part of a feature length documentary on peacebuilding that Spectrum Media is producing in collaboration with with the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, at Tufts University. The new film, called Beyond Diplomacy: Building Sustainable Peace, will profile the peacebuilding process in four countries– Colombia, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka and Burundi.
