An experimental documentary tracing the passage of a rural Indian wedding.
Film by Susan Gamble
Music by The Spheres
Music recorded and mixed by Seth Rees
Haryana was filmed on location during the annual period for auspicious Hindu weddings in Northern India in the region from whence it takes its name. The experimental documentary follows the many rituals & formalities undertaken and the celebrations & quiet moments shared by the groom and his family over the period of a week from the engagement party to the wedding ceremony.
Also conceived as a music video, the soundtrack combines samples from the original footage, of streetscapes, bangles and laughter with music composed by Australian AV band The Spheres.
Created using a combination of video and overlayed scanned film textures to produce multiple renders with shifts in colour, then spliced together frame by frame to create sonically responsive, textural animated sequences.
The work can also be regularly found in a 3 screen format in performances as part of The Spheres multi-screen live AV set.
