Leaving a day job to go indie is the dream of many iOS and Mac developers. But making a living in the App Store is more difficult than ever, these days. With so much competition for the time, attention, and money of App Store consumers, it’s not always clear how an independent developer with limited resources can support himself and his family.
In this presentation, we’ll take a close look at the challenges that indies face, and develop a long-term plan for maximizing a person’s chance of success. We’ll learn about the characteristics of profitable apps, develop a step-by-step process for creating app concepts that have the best chance of maintaining sustained revenue, and come up with strategies for effectively marketing our apps to their target audience. Along the way we’ll also discuss the importance of creating benchmarks for financial viability, and learn how to monitor and evaluate our progress so that we’ll know when it’s time to finally “take the leap” and go indie.
