15-0301 Power of Nature (Series)
Produced by BBC Earth Productions
Category as a finalist: Limited Series - Short Form
Power of Nature reveals the true significance of our planet’s most spectacular wild places. Their value to us and the world in which we live is immeasurable. Intact, they provide vital services for all of us, free of charge. But landscapes don’t exist in isolation and in this series we unravel the complex web of lives that help maintain them. It explores the relationships between plants and animals, and between animal and animal that help preserve the delicate balance of life on earth. There are more than ten million species on Earth... each is unique but each exists only because it is connected to others.
As a Producer and Series Producer I wanted to reveal how all the living elements that make up an ecosystem are interconnected and how changes to just one part can profoundly affect the health and stability of that ecosystem. An especially magical moment was showing how beneficial wolves are to Yellowstone National Park. Their presence changes the course of rivers and provides space for a huge diversity of others plants, birds and mammals. Yellowstone is much poorer without them.
