SALI's Farm got a call from a local farm about two baby hens who were at-risk of being killed. They were named Gimpy and Limpy because they had horrible deformed legs and were going to be killed because of it. 1 to 2% of all chicks hatched have deformed or injured legs. This is considered an industry standard. These babies are deemed useless and killed. The kind wife of the farmer asked us to take them in and we said yes! These happen to be our first rescue chickens at our sanctuary. We renamed them Thelma and Louise after the dynamic duo Susan Serandon and Geena Davis who wowed us all in the classic movie in the early 90s. In the movie Thelma and Louise choose to live life to the fullest and defy all odds. Well our baby chicks never got this choice, but because of a kind intervention, they will be able to live life to the fullest at our farm.
