DLECTRICITY is Detroit’s nuit blanche festival that showcased site-specific installations of light, sound, performance and video projection by established and emerging artists, lighting designers, architects and Detroit’s ever-growing class of creative entrepreneurs. The 2015 festival featured 39 light-based art installations and transformed Midtown Detroit last September into a spectacular canvas of immersive light installations and projections. Over 400 artists applied through the Call for Entry. 3500 cyclists participated in the Light Bike Parade. Every expectation for attendance and economic impact was exceeded. It was an unforgettable moment in Detroit’s renewal as 150,000 people experienced art, music & performance along Woodward—at night, on foot and bicycles—rediscovering these spaces and seeing them in a new light. It was all about experimentation, innovation, and showing what’s possible when art and technology merge.
