PhotoWings spent the day with award-winning photojournalist and Harvard Nieman Fellow Andrea Bruce while in Bali for the 2015 Foundry Photojournalism Workshop. Andrea, an instructor at Foundry, has worked with many prestigious organizations, such as National Geographic and the Washington Post, and is a co-owner of the photo agency NOOR. Andrea shares valuable insights about creating compelling narratives, critical thinking, earning trust, perspective, and the importance of fixers to the work of photojournalists. We followed Andrea and her local fixer Wayan Tilik as she got acquainted with the island of Bali and researched potential stories for her students.
Foundry Photojournalism Workshop was created to provide training, education and networking to emerging photographers and students who normally would not be able to afford workshops. FPW is a grassroots workshop series held in inspiring and photographically challenging global locations.
