Robotics @ Maryland's ( ram.umd.edu ) Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Tortuga 2 successfully drops markers in two cards of the black jack table. This is in the Space Systems Lab's ( ssl.umd.edu ) Neutral Buoyancy Research facility.
Tortuga 2 is maneuvering between the "cards" of the "black jack table", an objective of this years AUVSI International AUV Competition ( auvsi.org/competitions/water.cfm ). It sequentially checks each card and drops a flashing marker in the club (at time 1:07) and diamond (at time 2:28) bins. The robot is under complete autonomous control. The flashing markers are capacitor powered and can be recharged.
This work was made possible by the hard work of the vision and AI teams over hours of testing and tuning.
