At the end of my life, I want to look back and know that I mattered--that I mattered to my friends, my family, and my patients. I wasn't blessed as the fastest runner, the strongest person in the world, the tallest, but I was blessed with the ability to transform smiles.
Our faces have two really important features, in my opinion: your eyes and your smile. We have the ability to change our smile, and through the power of a smile, I've seen miraculous things happen. I've seen patients walk in that could hardly look me in the eyes prior to doing their work, and then months later, after performing the smile of their dreams, I've seen them come in with a whole new different personality, really, whole new confidence level. And that's where I look and say, "Wow, I'm really blessed to provide this impact in this person's life."
Smiles can transform the soul. I truly believe that. It can allow the person to become the true person they were destined for, without any psychological barriers holding them back. One of my favorite quotes is by John Lennon, who says, "Measure your life by smiles, not tears." And I'm glad to be able to play a part in some of that.
