Gen Shimizu is the founder of YAMA Mountain Gear, a specialist in creating lightweight, beautifully designed and handcrafted tents, shelters and packs for long distance hikers. Gen has spent a considerable part of his life exploring the outdoors. He completed the Appalachian Trail in 2004, and later rode the Great Divide Route on a mountain unicycle no less! His inspiration to create YAMA came while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a trail he continues to chip away at in sections.
