Laguna de la Janda, in Southern Andalucia, was once a vast wetland complex, but has been drained to create agricultural land. The three rivers the fed it, the Barbate, Celemin and Almodovar, are now dammed, diverted and canalized.
However, in periods of very heavy rain, the dams are opened and the laguna is flooded. This doesn't happen very often, but when it does there is great joy. The waters are flowing once again.
Around the Spring Equinox, in March 2015, the sky delivered a vast amount of rain over then days. Colectivo Arriero in collaboration with Earth Speaks were holding a three day residency. We were following a 'plan no plan', allowing our feet to guide our movements. The day it stopped raining, we went to La Janda.
