Well Mother is a choreography for one dancer and four 50-foot extension cords, a precisely performed task of unspoken purpose. As the cords are rearranged, they become visual records of the effort and events of the dance. Well Mother makes a nod to Robert Motherwell’s monumental painting cycle and his devotion to the elegiac work of repetition.
