Sculpture as Drawing Surface.
In the thematic of experimentation and mark making, the emerging artists constructed sculptural objects from Paper Mache that were developed from their observational drawings of their objects. Throughout the project, the young people who have disabilities said that society in general did not allow them personal space so these sculptures were activated as wearable three-dimensional drawing surfaces for a performance that explored the notion of personal space. During the performance, the emerging artists moved in their own ways and at their own paces communicating with their body movements as they also made marks on each other, some avoiding the intrusion into their space while others permitted the act. The resulting video documents these acts of mark making and their personal visual language through movement and the boundaries of personal space.
