A scene from the documentary "High Sierra - a Journey on the John Muir Trail"
Music by Mandolin Orange.
Lyell Canyon is really the first point on the JMT (southbound) that doesn't have any accesible bear lockers. As we discover here, the bears know you are coming.
All of the young hikers featured in the film had most of their food stored in bear canisters, but there were a few scented items (drink mixes, trail mix) that couldn't be squeezed in, so they unsuccessfully attempted a bear hang.
This was not an approved food storage method.
Hopefully through sharing this experience, others will not make the same mistake!
