'In search of a subculture' was a 3rd year Media Arts assignment, for Deakin University.
It was a group project by (then students) David Cox, Antoinette Perceval, Kealy Smith and Chris Zwar.
It was made in May - June 1994, and was shot in Melbourne. It mostly featured the "Eternity" rave held at the infamous shed 14.
It was shot on Hi-8 and edited on a Hi-8 tape-to-tape edit suite.
It was the highlight of my time at university.
I enjoyed working on this project so much that I sent a copy to the ABC proposing they fund a longer documentary on raves. That lead to them commissioning 'Neurodancer', which was made in 1997.
Despite the improved technical quality of 'Neuromancer', I actually prefer the rawness and undergraduate vibe of ISOAC.
