This video is about 4K Super 8 Data Scanning Film.A data scan is a transfer of the film material with the objective of getting all the raw information from film onto digital without regard to the final presentation. This is done by over scanning the film to gather the most picture and decreasing the contrast to gather the most color and exposure information . This is possible due to the availability of large digital file format , such as 2K & 4k that are now capable of hold all this date . After scanning , these images can then be framed , exposure & color corrected and set to what ever output format is desired. This workflow has several advantage for modern film users . First it saves money on the cost of scanning and second it put the control for framing , color and exposure correction, stabilizing, dirt & scratch concealment in the hands of post production process.
Data Scanning in Log mode for Color Negative and Linear low contrast for reversal can be done for all 8, 16 & 35mm film formats. These include 8mm, Super 8 , Single 8 , Max 8 , 16mm , Super 16 and Ultra 16mm and 35mm formats. Scanning can be done in 2K & 4K and encoded in compressed .mov files like Prorez .MOV or uncompressed DPX file types. This scan process can also be done with sync sound that is part of the film in either Optical and Magnetic configuration. Audio can be made part of the file or encoded as its own .Wav file. All Data scanning is done on a per foot basic based scaled to the output resolution and the scheduled turn around time.
