Motion Brushes (CCL5 at UCLA Broad Art Center)

andrew benson

Demo video from Motion Brushes, developed during Choreographic Coding Lab 2015 at UCLA. Motion tracking is performed on 50 points in the frame and used to drive a set of paintbrushes. The paintbrushes also paint a "motion painting" offscreen where color values (normalized 0-1) are used to represent directional (x/y) motion. This motion painting is used in a video feedback system as a distortion map. This is how the liquid-like flow of the brushstrokes is achieved.
