People Not Pozos is an environmental justice campaign that advocates for the health and safety of communities impacted by oil and natural gas extraction. For years residents of University park, in South Los Angeles, were exposed to the noxious emissions from an oil drilling site operating dangerously close to their homes, schools, and daycare centers. The oil company, AllenCo Energy Inc. operates on land leased by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles; therefore, People Not Pozos is calling on Pope Francis and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to intervene and terminate the lease agreement.
