Victory Remembered, Legacy of The Black Devils tells the inspiring true story of The First Special Service Force, as well as the far reaching affect on the people they liberated and the families they raised following the war. They were a secret combined U.S. and Canadian commando unit created to fight the Nazis during WWII and came to be known as The Black Devils, a name given them by their terrified German enemy. They were the first combined U.S. & Canadian combat unit and became the forefathers of today's Special Forces in both countries. In 2014, seventy years after the war, some of the veterans and their families revisited their training camp in Helena Montana as well as their legendary European battlefields of Monte la Difensa, Anzio and others, honoring the fallen and looking for answers. The combination of historic archival footage and personal interviews with the vets and their descendants, as well as visits to the actual combat locations, brings life to the stories of the unit’s historic origins, brutal training for their secret mission, legendary battle experiences and emotional personal accounts by loved ones. The message of the film goes beyond the heroic events of their service to explore their living legacy, which still exists in the villages, towns and countries they liberated, as well as in the hearts and minds of their own families and countrymen, culminating in the unit receiving the Congressional Gold Medal in 2015.
