On 14th September The Arts Club Debating Society discussed whether Artificial Intelligence has the potential to destroy the world.
As the country learns more this week about Artificial Intelligence and the threats it poses, some of the nation’s most revered in this field debated at The Arts Club last night whether ‘Robots will Destroy the Human Race’.
The audience heard fiery arguments on both sides, and although not an overwhelming majority, the audience voted ‘For’ the motion in a somewhat bleak outcome!
So the questions remain, will we draw a strong moral line in AI research that machines should not be authorised to kill people, and is it feasible to overcome the safety and control problem so that when we learn how to create general intelligence in machines, we will have solved the problem of how to make them safe and human friendly?
