Mystery Mark was shot in one day on a Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Pocket Camera. The film is based on Viscosity Theatre’s theatrical installation that was in turn based on the short illustrated novella by Theo Ellsworth and Josh Wagner.
Mystery Mark is the cartoon exorcism of Clay Searle, a paranoid man stalked by his childhood television hero. In the book Clay is preoccupied with his appearance. He wants facial expression reconstruction surgery to get rid of the permanent expression of terror he’s worn all his life. This decision sparks a chain of events leading to a far more spiritual transformation.
The installation and film are abstract interpretations of the story.
Starring Ann Peacock, Chris Torma, and Margi Cates. Directed by Josh Wagner and Kier Atherton. Shot by Kier Atherton and Mark Pieper. Music by Cash for Junkers. Produced by Skye Bennett and Montana Mafia Productions
