After a three hour hike up a big Rwandan volcano, we came face to face with a group of wild mountain gorillas, twelve in total, resting and playing in the midday sun.
Thanks to tourism they can afford almost round-the-clock trackers, to keep an eye on the apes and the poachers at bay.
We got to spend an hour in the company of these magnificent beasts, before our guide, Vincent, dragged us kicking and screaming (inwardly) away.
