NFWF has partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Long Island Sound Study and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to support projects that foster development of the next generation of conservationists. This video features one example of such projects: Creating Schoolyard Habitats for Native Birds at Barnard Environmental Magnet School.
Through this project, Audubon Connecticut has created 11 habitats in the footprint of public schools to serve as outdoor classrooms to teach students about birds and the watershed health of Long Island Sound. Students learn that as urban areas expand, urban forests and other green spaces become critical to protecting the Long Island Sound.
