Our grade school celebrated the festival of Michaelmas this morning. Michaelmas, or the Feast of Michael and All Angels, is celebrated on the 29th of September every year. As it falls near the equinox, the day is associated with the beginning of autumn and the shortening of days.
The Michaelmas festival celebrates inner strength and courage. Our festivities included songs performed by grades 2 through 7 and the slaying of the dragon by St. Micheal (played by our own Mr. Roemer). The primary idea behind the festival of Michaelmas is to get children to face their own challenges. Our celebration offered two challenges! Jumping over a rope and walking across logs! The celebration ended with the grades gathering to snack on freshly baked bread!
