Submission (January 2015) for the History of Song module of the Master of Music (MMus) in Songwriting at Bath Spa University.
Using three songs as examples, the video examines how genre, groove, harmony, timbre, instrumentation, harmony, production and performance can be so paramount that they can be regarded as much an integral part of the songwriting process and end result as the traditionally considered melody and text along with its resulting prosody.
The songs are studied and compared for their genre-defining characteristics and universal dimensions as well as their unique qualities.
