Round Tower Cosmic Teacup Network (2014) is a sound art piece by Nelson Smith. This piece is a table painted with layers of diagrammatic designs, teacups with embedded speakers, and motion sensor sound modules with teacup stirring sounds. Round Towers are a mysterious network of tall stone towers found in Ireland, one diagram indicates the various locations of each round tower site. It is speculated that these locations have a relationship with the constellations in the night skies of Ireland - another layer of the diagram is a constellation map. Super-imposed into these schematics is a variation on Moholy-Nagy's structural diagram for James Joyce's Finnegans Wake as well as a schematic that attempts to integrate the teacups and the nature of their stirring sound patterns into the piece as a whole.
