It was a landmark moment in a banner year and the very thing that might have saved Nixon's addled Presidency were he not such a compulsive liar and plotter.
Barack Hussein Obama, the US' 44th President, needs his "Nixon Moment" right about now. The litany of wrongs which have plagued this young Presidency are already legion, and if Obama has any hopes of lasting to term, he desperately needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat. The clock is ticking.
Could he find salvation in Pyongyang at the foot of the Dear Leader, Kim Jong-il? Quite possibly.
