Well the other Boat People are certainly in the news with all of this federal election media circus. Bob Hawke: "We're all bloody boat people, that's how we found the place". If you are like me and love aussie music, I keep on thinking they are talking about The Boaties, the melodic four piece pop group.
Affectionately known, as The Boaties, The Boat People are an Australian four-piece indie pop band. The Brisbane based group consists of James O'Brien, Robin Waters, Charles Dugan and Tony Garret. They cite Crowded House and The Beatles as childhood influences but now name-check bands such as Phoenix, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Wilco and Of Montreal. These days, two members still live in Brisbane but two now resided in Melbourne Rock Central.
Playing cuts from their latest and third CD, "Dear Darkly" at the Mess+Noise midday Lunchbox concert at 1000 £ Bend. Here are The Boaties playing one of my FAV song from their "Chandeliers" album. A rockin' little number that sounds likes like a tongue-twister, called "Awkward Orchid Orchard", as captured on CarbieWarbieShakeyCAM! ㋡
