This is a small part of a larger project I am working on; The Magic Mansion, a children’s story (specifically for my granddaughters). In this section, ‘The Roadtrip’, the two characters have found a Google Self-drive car and are going across Australia to discover what would be a good national anthem for Australia because the current one (Advance Australia Fair) is so budget. The ‘Roadtrip’ is chapter four (http://neuage.org/mm with earlier chapters ‘The Beach’ and ‘Liam’s secret’ where the characters have lunch with President Obama and many other adventurers). In this ‘music scene’ the two actors (are dolls actors?) are listening to the song, ‘On the road to Gundagai’ (sung by my reluctant wife) on their Google-Self-Drive radio. Of course we all know the end result will be that they believe "Waltzing Matilda" should be the Australian National Anthem.
As I love doing this kind of stuff I will not say how many (50+) hours I have spent on the ten-minute clip so far. I have tried scaled down similar projects with middle school (year seven in Australia) and high school (Dalian International School, Dalian China for three years) and middle-school students in New York. It is the time that is of essence. With year seven recently in Australia students spent several hours using stop-motion for their music videos.
The most difficult part of my current story is getting my wife to participate, to narrate and sing.
