In January of 2004, just three weeks following Hallett and Lisa's wedding, Hallett shipped out to begin a 13-month tour of duty in Iraq, and was stationed in Georgia, Louisiana and then finally Washington. Along the way, Lisa and John welcomed two sons, Jackson and Bryce. Three weeks before his death, Lisa gave birth to the couple's third child, Heidi, who Hallett never met. Shortly after Hallett's death, the Army released a statement by Lisa from their home in DuPont, WA. "Captain John Louis Hallett, III was an amazing father and a devoted and joyful husband who always put the needs of others above his own. He had the warmest and most genuine smile. John would always make people laugh by his clever ways and kind humor and his amazing example and memories will live on and guide his three children," she said. "He was very passionate about what he did for the military, but he wasn't a blow-it-up kind of guy. He wanted to work with communities and...try to make Afghanistan a better place to live." As her husband's legacy and in accordance with their prior discussions, Lisa has launched a non-profit, Wear Blue: Run to Remember, for which she serves as CEO.
All three Hallett children have been awarded Future Use Scholarships from Folds of Honor. Jackson and Bryce are also recipients of the Children's Scholarship Fund.
