In 2012, Matthew moved to Venice California and become involved in Occupy Venice, a movement that provides relief for the unhoused. While living in a tent with his two dogs and during the cold nights on the street he became acutely aware of how important a good scarf can be. He started making some for himself and his fellow Occupiers. Shortly thereafter a woman approached him and bought the scarf right off his neck. Matthew used that money to go buy more fabric and Late Sunday Afternoon was born.
