After some time of thinking about the concept behind the Horten IX an idea came up, how this outstanding German flying wing of the Gebrüder Horten in the early 1940s might work and fly in a superb matter as a scale 1/10 model rc plane. Developed, calculated and built in a first run as the V1 saleplane, it has shown fabulous flying characteristics! Next has been the thrust-version - powered by 2 x 70mm ChangeSun 12-blade EDFs. And we have had to learn - as many before us did - that too much thrust will cause a stall - inevitable. By trimming an trimming we finally achieved a concept now, which allows quite a long time vertical climb and about 180km/h fast. One of our collegues has built a version with better EDFs flying more than 260km/h fast.
This video shows an evening flight of the Horten-9 V3 prototype #2 with some of the improvements on the thrust pipes. Enjoy viewing (while we are building protoype #4...)
