Rudy Gelis is one of the top birders in South America. I was able to accompany him during his team's successful effort to break the world's record for the number of bird species identified in one day. The team, which also included Dusan Brinkuizen, Mitch Lysinger and Tuomas Seimola, identified 431 bird species in 24 hours. Rudy has incredibly sensitive hearing, and is a master at identifying birds by sound. He was in charge of the logistics of the week long adventure, and took us to some very interesting places. Rudy is also a good guy with a wonderful sense of humor.
