This project was Inspired by my favorite video game Tempest, where I became compelled by the visual description of 2D and 3D space as described by linear graphics. The Vertex sculpture shifts between our understanding of flat 2D space into a perspective illusion of a "top view" of a 3D object with the vortex at the bottom. The image then rotates to reveal the geometric shape of an elevation drawing of the 3D X Vertex. It then shows the X Vertex Doubled as a 3 dimensional X shape, with a vertex in the middle. The animation then shows sections of the shape that become arrows or location markers of a place. The physical sculpture of the location markers is revealed, as the objects built from 1 1/2" aluminum tubing are placed in city parks with information about the project and experiences people have had there.
