As part of The British Science Festival, I will be running a workshop to build what we are calling the Beat Box, or as I clumsily call it the Manual Octopus. For those of you who know my midi-octopus (midi-octopus.co.uk) you will see that I am fascinated by using motors and the like for making "machine music". The Beat Box allows you to tap rhythms, or step sequence them, triggering motors and DC buzzers etc.
This demo video shows what you can make in the workshop. The sequencer and the buttons on the demo unit need a bit of a tweak still, but that's explained in the video.
I hope you can join us for this! If you'd like to register please do so here : geeksworld.co.uk/ (any problems pop me an email - sam AT mrunderwood DOT CO DOT UK)
[[ I'd like to thank Kate & Richard and the wider Aston Uni team for all their help with this and Asmo23 (asmo23.wordpress.com/) for providing the sequencer schematic! ]]
