Photographs improvised in an eighteenth-century mansion are set to a nonsense conversation purchased from an online sound-effects library. The resulting short film — which takes its Mandarin name from an obstinate phrase meaning “out of the question” or “can’t be done” — pushes story to the periphery and gives form and atmosphere center stage.
A set of 35mm stills were developed, printed, and then digitized to include artifacts of the printing process.
Screened at ICA Philadelphia.
