One hot summer day at the local youth club, a Bored Boy (Richard Merry) discovers a mysterious ancient chess set...
"Board Game" was my first step up from a career in Super 8. I made it with a bunch of friends using equipment begged and borrowed from acquaintances in the London Soho film community, where I was working at the time. We shot it in the summer of 1984, on 16mm Kodak 9247 short-ends. I then edited it on film over the course of the next year, working on weekends using a tiny six-track motorized pic-sync editing machine with a screen the size of a packet of cigarettes. Amazingly, it won first prize and earned its budget back in BBC TV's Radio Times Film and Video Awards, Showreel 86.
