Synopsis: An experimental 60 min video triptych composed of three parts – Commune, Polis - Paramita – functions as an organic scanner of the human psyche at the opening of the 21st century. Structured around a conversation between two minds, the triptych explores three pivotal aspects of contemporary human existence, the communal impulse and the utopian visions it sustains, the evolution of solitude in virtual space, the environmental synthesis between human, natural, urban and the cosmic world.
COMMUNE
Filmed in a real life communal setting in upstate New York, a renovated cow barn temporarily inhabited by seventeen performers, Part One of the triptych, Commune, is an on-camera investigation of a communal mind at the opening of the 21st century. Floating within this psyche, alongside nostalgic references to 20th century utopias, from the Soviet to the capitalist dream to self- help groups and the 60s communes, are contemporary attempts to break through the singularity of our existence and forge a connection, however tentative and mediated by technology, to one another and the natural world.
POLIS
As opposed to the communal impulse, Part Two probes the singularity of human existence, transporting us from the countryside to the fast pase of an urban setting, New York City - Toronto.
PARAMITA
A digital attempt to posit another state of mind, in which a bizarre harmony exists between the senses and the natural, cosmic and virtual worlds.
