The Innovator of the Year Award is presented to a company or organization in Maine that has accessed international markets through new and innovative processes or products. As the oldest known boat builder in the US, Hodgdon Yachts has a rich and traditional Maine history. However, the company has evolved and diversified in recent years, particularly under the leadership of Timothy Hodgdon, to become a leader in innovative design and construction of yachts. Their build of the 100-foot monohull Comanchee demonstrated the company’s abilities to push the limits of modern boat building as they completed the carbon fiber composite construction in just 13 months. Hodgdon has diversified not only in production, but also in global markets as their international sales continue to grow. In 2014, they opened an office in Monaco dedicated to increasing sales of new sailing and motor yachts, custom tenders, and superyacht interiors within the region.
